The political drama

When Orissa was going through all the turmoil in Phulbani after Sri Lakshamananand Saraswati's murder, BJP was probably seeing the golden opportunity to spread its wings in the state. So called communal feelings were at a high and the Hindu population was on a boil.

No wonder, that the BJD and BJP have parted ways in Orissa. The political drama that unfolded this week was expected. BJP would have asked for more seats and BJD can't be expected to agree after such good response in local elections.

Navin Patnaik has some guts, I must say, whether misplaced or not only time will tell. But he did the right thing for his party in Orissa by parting ways with BJP. He has been called the 'Betrayer' by some and 'a masterstroke player' by some. He is both, but he can play intelligent political games. There is no benefit to BJD from the partnership at this time, so why not break it! Nobody expects moral commitment from political leaders, not in India! BJP should have been more accommodating as it is the one who would have benefited from the partnership, they could have waited for a better opportunity to demand much more....

I get this feeling that BJP has lost its charm, Congress has the momentum and the so called 'third front' is definitely not going to get majority to form a government at the centre. So, looks like we will again have a hung parliament with Congress forming 'yet another' alliance to form a government... whatsoever, it is sad to see no single party being able to convince the population about its credibility.

In my opinion, all regional parties should be asked to contest at least from 5 or 10 states, to qualify for the parliament seat elections. That will discourage the regional sentiments and more and more political parties will be forced to look at the benefit of the country and not just for their own state or constituency. It is ridiculous to see regional agendas taking higher priority for the parliament elections.

May the citizens rise to the occasion and vote for people who have the right election agendas and not for the ones who go on distributing 100 rupee notes ...

To my knowledge BJP has asked to maintain the status quo and BJD wanted a better share and it has nothing to do with Swamiji's death.

Time will tell whether Navin is master stroke player or looser, but he is a looser as of now. He has left the confident 3rd term chief minister ship and now going through a tough path. prepoll survey (before the aliance was broken) wa giving 18-19 seats to BJP-BJD where as the situation is uncertain now.

BJP did nothing for Swamiji, and does not deserve any sympathy. Nabin is the best of the lot and expect him to return to power.

He may return to power with support of Congress at the cost of supporting UPA at center.

So, what does Navin gain from parting with BJP and supporting UPA? Better hold in the state seats. Given the Pro-Navin waves in the state right now (odisha people never had any better CM as a person), he will definitely be voted to power at the state, I am sure.

I surely appreciate him for being such a political pro, coming from nowhere... remember Rajiv Gandhi? IMO, he was a good human being, who wanted upliftment of Indian people, but he just could not handle the mud called politics...

On the contrary, look at Navin, he became the CM pretty much the same way as Rajiv became the PM, but he seems to have done so well in the political circle - he has wiped out almost all competition within his party, he is a people's favourite for inviting many companies into the state and it is just the beginning !

When you are used to seeing mediocore, you tend to praise the average. Is he good? ... hhhmmm... god only knows.

I still believe that Swamiji's death was used very effectively by BJD - BJP tried to use it, but due to lack of any good leaders in the state, they could not succeed.

What I ask is, which problems of odisha people (poverty, lack of employement, natural disaster management, attracting funding from the centre etc etc etc ...) have been solved effectively by Navin and his government?

Yes, they are definitely better that the earlier ones from congress - at least they seem to be taking some good steps... but are they doing as much as they could?

When did Naveen Join UPA? He is still has his cards open. There are no pro-Naveen waves, latest survey puts BJD in second spot after congress. I don't have the link but have the hard copy. Naveen have not started campaigning yet. Naveen patnaik ousted Braj Tripathy by inducting Pinaki Mishra in Puri. Ask anybody from Puri, they can differentiate between them.

If you look at the report card Portfolios by BJP minister was done well where as irrigation and home (Naveen was in charge of them) were worst in last 5 years.

I am not sure how much you know about the chief ministers of Odisha. I would rate Nabakrushna Chowdhury much above others. Naveen does not play fair in politics. The way he has thrown out Bijay Mohapatra, Dilip Roy, Braj Tripathy and others are worst of its kind. I don't agree a good man will dump his opponents using ugly tricks. Naveen Patnaik can be anything but a good man.

Naveen was unable to protect Swamiji. Nayagarh incident, Balimela incidents, Pesco and other law order problem during his tenure are signs of his failure as home minister and chief minister. He is ruthless and throws corrupt people away.

In last year flood, there were trucks of unused food grains laying in road where as people didn't get food. If that was good disater management, then what is poor management? Odisha did not send the report to Centre about the flood situation.

Currently BJD is run by Pyarimohan and is drowning. And naveen has record of being ruthless. BJD will be saved if Pyarimohan was thrown away from BJD.

I visited Orissa after a gap of 2.5yrs last Nov. I was amazed by the development in bbsr. On my village front though mediocore some positive change. Naveen has a simple philosophy (rather lets call it pyari school of thot) show least respect for fellow MLAs, ministers.. its the bureacrats who are capable and can run the machine best.. BBSR commissioner (a lady IAS) is a household, streethold, mediahold name. I guess noone bothers abt who is the corporator, mayor etc and that works. The same babus can run railway differently. The same secretaries that prepared socialist budgets for ages can write dream budget to open the economy. They need drive from political leadership and freedom to work....
